Noted events in her life were: • Obituary. Mrs. Townsend who recently died at her residence, Bruce, at the age of 78, was born in Ireland, and came to South Australia with her parents when she was four years of age. The latter took up land near Kapunda, where the daughter lived until she was married to Mr. Harry Townsend. The northern areas were then being opened up, and her husband secured a property in the Hundred of Coonatta, between Bruce and Hammond. Not many years afterwards her husband died, leaving her to rear a large family. After adverse seasons and years of struggling, she sold her property and moved to Bruce to be near most of her family. She has left five daughters and two sons - Mesdames H. Rodgers (Bruce), B. Dienhof (Quorn), A.J. Pool (Quorn), J. Chapman (Quorn), and Messrs. J.J. Townsend (Bruce), and D.J. Townsend (Adelaide). There are 22 grandchildren. Theresa married John Henry Townsend, son of John Townsend and Mary Ellen Hamp, on 24 Jan 1872 in Bagots Well, South Australia. (John Henry Townsend was born on 23 Nov 1849 in Glen Osmond, South Australia and died on 9 Dec 1893 in Bruce, South Australia.) |
