General Notes:
The following is taken from an article in the "Christian Commonwealth"
1 - 1 - 1900 An Unique Baptism at Goodwood The following belated note should not be omitted. At the Goodwood watchnight service interesting addresses on the principals, work, and history of the Bible Christian Church, then ceasing to exist as a separate body, were given by the Rev W.N. Cann and Messrs, J Culver and J.G. Ashton. There was a great attendance and the service was impressive. At the close Marjorie, the first born child of Mr Edred Rosevere Hicks, was baptized. The father is the fourth son of the late Captain Thomas Hicks, a bold and able sailor, who was presented by President Andrew Johnston with a gold chronometer for saving the crews of a United States ship, and was and was lost at sea in 1874. His mother (Mrs C.M. Hicks) is the second daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Gibson, members of the Bible Christian Church for 60 years, and who, after long and faithful service at St Mary's, Scilly Isles, spent the evening of life near their three children in South Australia. And so, probably, the first child baptized in the United Methodism of the colony was a Bible Christian of the fourth generation.
Moved to a hostel unit in Alwyndor in Brighton in 1988 where she lived until needing nursing home care in 1994~ at the same address. She died on 20.2.1999 aged 99.5 years
