John Townsend

  Noted events in his life were:

• Obituary. John Townsend, was born in Ireland around 1800, the son of Henry Townsend. He was 61 when he married the 29 year old Mary Ellen Hamp. They had four children prior to their marriage, and four after it. He was 49 when he fathered the first, and Mary Ellen was only 17. Her eldest sister was married just months before Mary Ellen delivered her first child. They had eight children and 41 Grand children.

• Emigration. John immigrated on 25 Sep 1839 to Adelaide via Prince Regent. He was employed as Dairyman, Farmer.

John married Mary Ellen Hamp, daughter of John Hamp and Sarah Emily Chipp, on 7 Jan 1861 in Kapunda, South Australia. (Mary Ellen Hamp was born on 19 Nov 1832 in Oxford, England and died on 6 May 1892 in Kapunda, South Australia.)
