• Fact. Maurice Gigney wrote a book titled Recollections. It gives a colourful account of many interesting events and experiences of his young adult life… Mostly from around the Port Augusta region.
• Military service. Maurice served in the Australian Army as a volunteer (fighting the Japanese in the New Guinea jungles): Enlisted 8 Oct 1941, Discharged 10 Aug 1943. He falsified his date of birth by one year, to 01 Apr 1922, so he would not be rejected by the recruitment agency. For this deception to work he had made an alternate name of “Ivor Vincent KILDARE”. He did report this after some time in service. So he had two identities during his service life.
Maurice married Dorothy Jean Dempster. (Dorothy Jean Dempster was born on 11 Jul 1924.)
