bullet  Noted events in his life were:

• Obituary. John was employed as Laborer, Shearer, Farmer. He immigrated on 1 Mar 1841 to Port Phillip via Argyle.
He first settled in Melbourne for about six years, after which he came to South Australia and proceeded to the Lake Bonney District. After a period of droving he settled in the Crystal Brook district until 1853, when seized with the prevailing gold fever, he made for the Bendigo diggings. Six months sufficed to convince him that he was not amongst the fortunate ones, and, returning to South Australia, he went to reside near Clare, taking up land adjoining the Bungaree estate. He followed agricultural pursuits with a fair amount of success until 1884, when he retired.

• Emigration. Arrived on the 'Argyle' on 1st March 1841, aged 18 years. He was from Somersetshire. His calling was given as Labourer; his religion Protestant. He was unable to read or write.
