Noted events in his life were:
• Fact. baker, living at Well Sreet, Hackney 1789 (witness to Old Bailey proceedings 22 April 1789). Leased 70 acres from the Cass estate in Hackney to build a terrace of houses on the corner of Well Street. Although this led to his bankruptcy the terrace was completed by others. William himself was commemorated by the naming of the terrace Baker's Row in what is now Grove Street (Victoria County history, Hackney). It is probable he was the William Gigney, corn chandler of Sun Street, Bishopsgate, arraigned at the Middlesex Sessions, for an assault on William Rose in 1794. A few years later the family are listed as bakers in Bishopsgate
